    Good afternoon,

Recently many of you may have heard that there was an attempt by the Department of Natural Resources Head of Hunter Education to change the current structure of hunter safety. In short Mr. King created an administrative policy that hunter safety programs had to complete all the required training inside of a three week window. The result of that policy change pushed Westgate to the possibility of having to cancel our fall class. With the amount of events, instructor availability and the usage of the clubhouse, it would have been impossible for Westgate to complete in 3 weeks. Westgate has offered a six week, one night a week class for over 30 years. It provides an alternative to kids and parents who already have busy schedules. So, Westgate fought back. With the extreme help of Senator Moulton we were able to pitch our case for a special permanent waiver. Today after much hard work by our instructors and Senator Moulton our case and request made it to Secretary Stepp. Today Secretary Stepp has granted Westgate a permanent waiver of the 3 week class and can continue to operate our 6 week class.
None of this would have been possible without the effort of several individuals. These individuals deserve a thank you from all.
Mr. Tom Lee, Mr. Tim Schultz and all the instructors of the Hunter Education program. Waiver or no waiver this class would not be possible without you. Your dedication and your commitment to Westgate Sportsman’s Club and the Hunter Education program is much appreciated.
Senator Terry Moulton: Senator Moulton took time from his day to meet with our instructors and Mr. King from the DNR to help resolve the issue. When the desired results were not there from Mr. King, Senator Moulton did not stop in the fight. He took the fight past Mr. King, speaking with Secretary Stepp.

Secretary Stepp: For taking the call and listening to the concerns we had. Ultimately the decision to grant the waiver was her call. She sided with us and took quick action to ensure we would have time to fill the fall class.

Westgate will now inform the DNR that we will be holding a fall class and sign up will begin immediately. As always, sign up will be held at Mouldy's Archery and Tackle. There are a limited number of seats available. Also follow us on the web at www.ecwestgate.com for more information or questions please feel free to contact me personally at 715-379-6470.

    Thank you,
    Bill Candell
President of the Board of Directors
